
Treating Urinary Tract Infection in Elderly
Urinary tract infection elderly are common among old age persons and it
stands next to respiratory infection. In old men because of the enlargement
of prostate gland, it blocks the free flow of urine from the bladder and
leads to urinary tract infection. These are symptoms of urinary tract infection in elderly men and women. Elderly having history of diabetes are more prone to urinary tract infection than others. On noticing these it is always recommended to consult a physician at the earliest to avoid complication of infection at a later stage. The causes for urinary tract infection in elderly are due to disorder of neuropthic and obstruction of the bladder. If the elderly not able to pass urine freely through the urethra, then catheters are placed to remove the urine from the bladder. If the catheter is not clean, then it will lead to urinary tract infection.Urinary tract infection elderly is due to infection of poly microbial organs. Usually the infection is caused by the bacteria E-coli which gets into the urinary tract either through the urethras or through to the kidneys from the feces in the large intestine. Other species causing the infection is enterococcus which infects only the elderly one. Antibiotics are effective in the treatment of urinary tract infection elderly. Some of the antibiotics are norfloxacin and sulfamethoxazole. By having this antibiotics, urinary tract infection can be controlled considerably. Drink a
lot of water, fruit juices, cranberry juice. Avoid alcohol, spice food
with oil. Having clean toilet habits. Some exercises like walking and
cycling will keep the mental ability.By adhering to precaUTIon and safety
measures, urinary tract infection elderly can be avoided.
